This policy explains what information Democracy Metrics collects, why, and what we do with it. We have tried to write it so you can actually read it.
Democracy Metrics is operated by Cyn Mobley in Knoxville, Tennessee. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean that operator.
What we collect
What you give us. When you sign up for the Canary Dispatch, we collect your first name, last name, and email address. If you become a Business member, payment is handled by our payment processor, Stripe — we never see or store your card number.
What we collect automatically. When you visit our pages, we record which pages you view, when, and how you arrived — for example, from a search engine or a link. If you are signed up with us, we may connect that activity to your contact record.
What your browser stores. Our member dashboards remember who you are by saving an identifier in your browser's local storage. That lets a member bookmark a dashboard without signing in each time. It stays in your browser until you clear it.
We do not collect sensitive personal information, and we do not ask for it.
How we use it
To send you what you asked for — the Canary Dispatch, the weekly Watch Card, and related updates.
To decide what you can see. If you are a member, we check your membership status to determine which dashboards you can access.
To run the service — handling payments, answering your messages, fixing problems.
To understand what's useful — which pages people read and which emails they open, so we can improve them.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with advertisers.
Every email we send includes a working unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing stops our marketing email. If you are a paying member, we may still send you messages about your account and billing.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run Democracy Metrics. They process information on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes:
HighLevel — our website, sign-up forms, contact records and email delivery
Stripe — payment processing for Business members
Google — data storage for our dashboards
Vercel — the service that delivers dashboard data to your browser
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety or property of Democracy Metrics or others.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while you are subscribed or a member, and for a reasonable period afterward to handle records, billing and legal obligations. You can ask us to delete it at any time.
Your choices
You can:
Unsubscribe from email using the link in any message.
Ask to see the personal information we hold about you.
Ask us to correct or delete it.
Clear stored identifiers by clearing your browser's local storage for our site.
Write to us at the address below and we will respond within [30] days.
Children
Democracy Metrics is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use reasonable measures to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee that information will never be accessed without authorization.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we will update the effective date above and, where the change affects you, let you know by email.
